Success Story-Paul Seavey

Paul Seavey

Age: 47 years old

Occupation: CFO

What is your athletic background?

Don’t really have anything specific to mention – I didn’t play HS or college sports. I started focusing on fitness about 13 years ago when I turned 35.

What was your first experience with CrossFit?

About three years ago I started working out at CF 312 in the west loop. That wasn’t the right fit for me so I switched to a local personal trainer who incorporated CrossFit principles and movements into my workouts.

When did you start CF?

I became more committed when I joined CF Spero earlier this year.

Why did you choose CF Spero?

I was looking for a fitness community that could inspire and motivate me to work out more frequently than I had been.

What keeps you coming back?

Everything – coaches, facility, people. Quality programming is a big part of it for me as well.

Why do you live in Oak Park?

We moved here 20 years ago from the city to raise our kids. It’s a great community and proximity to the city is key for me.

What do you do for a living?

I’m CFO of a public Real Estate Investment Trust.

How do you like to spend your free time?

With my family – my wife and I have four kids. Two are in college out of state so we focus on making the most of time we have together.

What do you like about Oak Park?

The people here are great. It’s great to be part of a diverse community that is as small or as big as you want it to be.

What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CF?

I notice that I’m less stressed and have more energy. Also, I’m hungry way more often than I used to be.

What are your goals for 2016?

My main fitness goal for 2016 was to break from the routine of paying a bunch of money for personal training sessions that I attended once a week and find a fitness community, preferably CrossFit, to join.

What would you say to someone thinking about starting CF?

Pay attention to the coaches (at CF Spero, they know what they’re talking about) and focus on individual progress over time.

What’s your favorite and least favorite CF movement?

Handstands are really tough for me – I have a problem being upside down. Believe it or not, I like thrusters.

Whats your favorite meal?

Braised short ribs, rapini cooked with oil and garlic, potatoes and a good Shiraz.

What was your workout routine prior to CF Spero?

(Mentioned above)

Anything else you would like to share with the Spero family?

Just thanks for being so welcoming and best wishes this holiday season.
