What is your athletic background?
I was a collegiate athlete and have played sports my whole life
What was your workout routine prior to CF Spero?
A little gym and seasonal softball
How much weight have you lost since you began?
Around 10 pounds and about 8% body fat
What was your first experience with CrossFit?
Actually, it was the on ramp class. My friend is a die hard Crossfitter and convinced me to give it a try. I’ll admit, I was a skeptic.
When did you start CF?
In December 2015
Why did you choose CF Spero?
I didn’t want to be unable to do something in class because then I knew I wouldn’t come back. I never got that impression during the intro class and I was intrigued. The coaches and family have kept me coming back for more.
What keeps you coming back?
I love learning new tricks and techniques! In just over 15 months, I’ve learned so many things and I’m able to do movements I’ve never been able to do! Me? Pullups? I think I laughed at you before and now I’m that girl doing pullups!
Why do you live in Oak Park?
I’m from a small, tight knit community and wanted that same experience. I feel like Oak Park offers me that “just like home” experience.
What do you do for a living?
I work for the FBI
How do you like to spend your free time?
A little bit of everything! Primarily anything I can do with my dog
What do you like about Oak Park?
Small town feel, but so close to the city! It’s beautiful, affordable, and safe.
What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CF?
Knee pain! You’re talking to the girl who has had two reconstructive surgeries on her knee and was in pain all the time. It’s amazing the difference increased strength and movement has made and I’ll be forever thankful! Also, my cardio has drastically improved! I’m currently gearing up for my first half marathon obstacle course in two months and am using only CrossFit and running to train!
What are your goals for 2017?
A muscle up (FINALLY got it), my Spartan race trifecta, competing in the CrossFit Open, learning how to do double unders, 10 pullups, 30 pushups, and it would be amazing to get a sub 7 minute mile for the first time ever.
What would you say to someone thinking about starting CF?
It’s not the bad stories some people try to make it out to seem like. It’s a family experience in which you can get a workout in!
What’s your favorite and least favorite CF movement?
My favorite has become the snatch because I think I’ve finally figured it out. Least favorite would have to be between rowing and double unders (probably until I figure out double unders)
Whats your favorite meal?
I’m a sucker for fajitas!
