Success Story-Abbie Glenn

Name: Abbie Glenn

Age: 34 (turning 35 this month-although maybe I shouldn’t mention that or I may have to do Burpee Pull ups)

Occupation: Stay at home mom

What is your athletic background?

Played water polo and swam in high school. Didn’t do much after that until I started running in 2010. Ran 3 marathons and many half marathons.

What was your workout routine prior to CF Spero?

After I had kids I never really got back into a great routine.

How much weight have you lost since you began?

Maybe around 5 lbs, but I’ve lost fat and gained lots of muscle!

What was your first experience with CrossFit?

My sister in law has been doing CrossFit for many years and has been trying to convince me to try it out.

When did you start CF?

Scott and my sister in law actually bought me the on ramp for my birthday last year. After the on ramp and starting classes I was hooked!

Why did you choose CF Spero?

It is such a supportive and great community. People know how to both push and support each other every workout!

What keeps you coming back?

All of you and the competitive aspect of the workouts.

Why do you live in Oak Park?

I grew up in OP and I love that I now get to raise my kids in this same community.

What do you do for a living?

Currently I am staying at home with my kids, Vivian (3.5) and Isaac (1.5). Before having kids I was in insurance but I have a bachelor and masters degree in opera performance. I’m not sure I’ll be going back to that field any time soon, but who knows what the next steps will be!

How do you like to spend your free time?

The small amount of free time I have at the moment is usually spent at the gym!

What do you like about Oak Park?

I love the community and how close we are to the city and lake.

What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CF?

I feel stronger and more confident in everything I do.

What are your goals for 2017?

I want to get a strict pull up and double unders.

What would you say to someone thinking about starting CF?

DO IT! It will change your life for the better. There is no price tag on your health.

What’s your favorite and least favorite CF movement?

My favorite are Cleans and I’d have to say Thrusters are my least favorite.

Whats your favorite meal?

Pizza! All kinds, I don’t discriminate.

Anything else you would like to share with the Spero family?

Thanks for all being so supportive! I walked in scared and having never picked up a barbell before. It is because of all of you that I come back every week and love it!
