What is your athletic background?
I played water polo for the past 9 years, 5 of which were club at the University of Iowa
What was your workout routine prior to CF Spero?
Over the summer I ran 3 days a week, but after that I didn’t do much
How much weight have you lost since you began?I’ve lost 9 lbs since joining CrossFit Spero
What was your first experience with CrossFit?
My first experience was here, and I love it!
When did you start CF?
In January of this year
Why did you choose CF Spero?
Mary-Anne convinced me! I had been looking for a CF gym in the area and asked about CF Spero. She told me how great the community is here and it seemed like a welcoming place to start.
What keeps you coming back?
There are so many things that keep me coming back! I love how friendly everyone is, the coaches are always upbeat and give really helpful feedback, I like how different each workout it so I don’t get bored, and CrossFit in general has made me more competitive so I always find a reason to keep trying instead of an excuse to quit.
Why do you live in Oak Park?
I’m from Oak Park, but currently live in Forest Park.
What do you do for a living?
I’m an aquatic coordinator at the West Cook YMCA, and I’m also a coach at OPRF for their girls Water Polo team.
How do you like to spend your free time?
In my free time I mostly hang out with friends and/or my two cats! I also volunteer with a youth group which is pretty fun, and when the weather’s nice I love to go hiking and kayaking.
What do you like about Oak Park?
Oak Park has so many resources! I feel like there’s always something to do and things to try!
What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CF?
Since starting CF I feel so much stronger doing everyday activities, which definitely makes me more confident in general.
What are your goals for 2018?
My goals for 2018 are to lose weight by staying committed to being active and eating healthier.
What would you say to someone thinking about starting CF?
Just go for it! I kept coming up with reasons to not start because I was nervous I wouldn’t know anything or would be bad at it. But there was so much great help and support to start, and you’ll probably surprise yourself with what you can do.
What’s your favorite and least favorite CF movement?
I hate burpees, but I love back squats and cleans.
Whats your favorite meal?
I’m a big fan of breakfast food, so my favorite meal is an egg on avocado toast.
