Name: Paul Franciszkowicz
Occupation: Attorney/Owner FMS Law Group
What is your athletic background? Played soccer through high school. As an adult participated in running/cycling. Ran the Chicago Marathon three times. Scheduled to run it again this year. Biked in RAGBRAI twice across Iowa.
What was your workout routine prior to CF Spero? Running and biking. Went to traditional big box gym and used treadmill. Used machines aimlessly.
How much weight have you lost since you began? At one point I was down about 15 pounds. I’ve been up and down based on my diet.
What was your first experience with CrossFit? On Ramp. I thought I was going to throw up. I was surprised how few CF push-ups I could do(1 or 2).
When did you start CF? September 2018
Why did you choose CF Spero? I drove past a million times. I wasn’t getting much out of working out on my own and wanted some direction.
What keeps you coming back? It’s a love/hate relationship. I dread the workouts but have an immense sense of accomplishment when I finish it. I love the feeling after a workout. Not so much the next morning.
Where do you live in Oak Park? Near the city. But a suburb. Best of both worlds.
What do you do for a living? I own a law firm with 2 other partners. I’m a trial attorney.
How do you like to spend your free time? With my wife and kids. Until recently I was a hockey dad but she is graduating and playing college. Future road trips are coming. I also collect art.
What do you like about Oak Park? Everything. It’s a great place to live with great people.
What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CF? I’m stronger than I used to be. When I’m eating well along with the workouts, I feel very sharp.
What are your CrossFit goals for 2018? Finish the Chicago marathon. Learn to do 1 kipping pull-up. Get my name on the “Committed Club” board for going to 15 classes in a month.
What would you say to someone thinking about starting CF? It’s harder than you imagined. But it’s worth it.
What’s your favorite and least favorite CF movement? Favorite: Anything. Least favorite: Whatever I did yesterday.
What’s your favorite meal? Chipotle Steak Salad I eat it 4 times/week.
Anything else you would like to share with the Spero family? It’s difficult. It’s challenging. It’s humbling. It’s worth it.
