Are your priorities and your goals aligned?

"People do not decide their futures. They decide their habits and their habits decide their futures" F.M. Alexander

Do your priorities match your goals?

Most of us have goals, get/stay fit, save some money, buy a house, get good grades, whatever

However we don't prioritize our lives to reach those goals.

Maybe there are goals that appeal to us more. And that is ok. Reality is we just cannot do everything.

But you cannot be shocked if you don't reach your goals when your priorities lie elsewhere.

A mentor taught me to ask my clients what the 5 things they spend the most time on as a tool to determine what their priorities are. Most people respond with work, school, family, friends, etc. To be clear there are some very important items in most people's top 5. Got to make money/pay the bills, need to be present for our family and loved ones, need to have a core group of good friends and support network,......

As a trainer I always have to ask, "where does your health/fitness fit in?" But this works with anything.

If you're trying to save for a new house or something. Ask yourself what are the five biggest areas where you put your money. Or where do you put your money first? If saving isn't in there. You might want to reassess.

If fitness is your goal, in what order do you schedule your workouts and your meals? Is your workout your last thing you put on the schedule? Do you regard it as an immovable appointment like you would with a boss or a client? Do you show up with the same intention and energy you would for your boss or a client?

Is your self care at least that important to you?

How about your meals?

Do you think about them beforehand and plan them out? Or are you always forgetting to eat and/or grabbing something fast and easy?

Do your priorities match your goals?

I'm of the opinion that our health and nutrition must be the top of our priorities. How good of a father, husband, coworker can I be if I am not in good health.

How much of a burden would I be on those same people if I were in poor health?

And I've known my fair share of highly "successful" people. Most of their days are packed with activities: global travel, meetings after meetings, kids activities, time with their significant others, the list goes on and on. But they always make time to work on themselves as well. It was a non-negotiable, they made the time to do it, regardless of how busy/hectic their days are.
